Currently Reading for Review…

One of my library books is The Evolution of Mara Dyer, and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is a book that I’m supposed to read for an August challenge on Goodreads (the green cover challenge). And this book definitely has a green cover:

I’ve been wanting to read this book for awhile and I got lucky on a $1.99 special and nabbec it. Then I forgot I bought it and checked it out of the e-library, but because I own the copy, Overdrive will not let me return it. I hope when the loan is up the book doesn’t disappear…

Anyway, here’s the blurb for those of you unfamiliar with the book:

Mara Dyer believes life can’t get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed.

There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

Vague, right? So I was obviously intrigued…and so far it’s really bizarre. I can’t tell if she’s crazy or something else is going on. ::scratches head::

It’s 456 pages, so this will be a long one. I’m wondering if I should read another book to break up RaR monotony, because sometimes with books that long I can get almost discouraged. But I’ll see how it goes. It’s got a beautiful cover, so it can’t be that bad, right? (Not counting all the other instances where a book had a beautiful covet and it SUCKED).

Have you read this? Any good or am I wasting my time?

And the final question:

  1. I *loved* the first book. I’ve got the trilogy, but I haven’t had time to dive into the second two. (And I part of that is because of the ending and I don’t know how if I’m going to like the second one, so I’m putting it off because I don’t want to ruin the first one lol.) It is long, but it’s good. I admit that it was subtle with the what’s actually going on stuff, so it’s a bit of a genre confusion one, but it’ll get clearer. Sort of. Definitely let me know if you like it!

  2. I have this book on my to-read list as well, but it’s been on there for a while now so honestly who knows when I’m going to get around to it! I’ve heard great things about this series though so I hope you really enjoy it, and I can’t wait to see your review either! 😀

      1. That has got to be like the worst torture ever. It’s happened to me a couple times (like with The Kiss of Desception), but otherwise I try NOT to read a book until the sequel is out. I didn’t do that with The Winner’s Curse, and I paid the price! 😑

    1. Thank you! I’m on pins and needles just waiting for the weird stuff to make sense…and there’s a lot of weird random stuff, so we will see if it’s good or not. (I can’t even begin to guess at what’s going on!)

  3. Hmmmm, I suppose one can say that cover is green… 😀 lol Hey, maybe I’m color blind.
I’m glad to see other people are discouraged by books over 400 pages! I’m too slow of a reader to invest that much time. Of course, I will do it for the right book, but I think books between 200-300 pages are perfect!

    1. I agree…but of course Mara Dyer is 460 something pages. I feel like I’ve hardly made a dent, and I’ve been reading on and off all day!
Sometimes I just think, “why don’t you just stop at 300 and make s second book out of the rest,” you know? It’s frustrating.
And that cover is greener than some of the books I saw being submitted for the challenge. Some had just a green leaf, even though the rules state that at least half the book must have green in it. That’s the whole point of the challenge!

  4. I loved the first book! I remember flying through it. I think I read the second one.. But I unfortunately don’t think I enjoyed #2 as much (I honestly can’t really remember what happened, but I guess that’s not a good sign haha). I hope you like it! Maybe I’ll give the series another try

    1. Really? Oh, I heard SO much hype about it…but them again, the first one has been out since 2011, so it makes sense that it might’ve been overlooked. Well, everyone’s told me (in the past) to read it, so I decided it was time. And it was &1.99. And it qualified for my GR group Aug challenge.

  5. I haven’t read this one, but the cover is really captivating. I stared at it for some time, and I’m really starting to wonder who Mara Dyer is as well. This seems like an interesting series, and one I’ll have to start as soon as I find some time to knock a couple of other books off my TBR list!
