The Versatile Blogger Award!!

So awhile ago, Jasmine nominated me for The Versatile Blogger award. I promised I would do it, and I am taking a moment to thank her for thinking of me. Jasmine is a wonderful blogger who always takes the time to comment on every post, and she reads every review. I like to think of her not as just a fellow blogger but as a friend.

Ok, enough of the mushy stuff!

Here are the rules:

  1. Show the award on your blog
  2. Thank the person that has nominated you
  3. Share 7 different facts about yourself
  4. Nominate 15 blogs of your choice
  5. Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination

And here are some awesome facts about me:

  1. I am a Simpsons nerd. Yes, that’s right: I love The Simpsons. I used to watch Family Guy and American Dad, and I thought The Simpsons just weren’t as funny. I was wrong. I got tired of sex and body noise humor, and started to enjoy the simple and fun humor of a cartoon that has made it since 1989. They are obviously doing something right. I even play The Simpsons:Tapped Out on my iPad.
  2. I NEVER wanted to be a teacher. Yup. You heard me right. The girl that’s about to become a teacher originally never wanted to be one. I wanted to be a writer. Still do. I actually got the brainstorm to be a teacher from a BOOK JACKET. A lot of authors, like Suzanne Young, had degrees in English and were writers on the side. I realized then that my love of books and my love of all things English could be put together with the fun I had when I tutored underprivileged high school students.
  3. I majored in Biomedical Sciences before switching to Secondary Education. I wanted to make money, and lots of it. I figured the sciences were the way to do it. I had put away my dreams of writing and realized that I wanted to live comfortably. I sucked at Organic Chem and couldn’t pass Anatomy and Physiology, so I dropped down to Allied Health Sciences. When I started to feel like I was still getting nowhere, I took a semester off school and figured out that teaching would be my true calling, and I could return to my dream to write my novel.
  4. I was a drug addict for 10 years. True story. My parents were upper class and still got away with using drugs, and their divorce was messy, so I was a little screwed up as a teen. I wanted to be a junkie. I wanted not to care. I started with pot, then ecstasy, then was on to meth and heroin. I never shot up: I just smoked it. It was everywhere in Phoenix. I moved to Michigan to get clean in 2008, and I haven’t looked back.
  5. I was a candy kid. Ever heard of rave culture? That was me. I had the big pants (still have them and wear them on Halloween), and I had the rainbow bracelets. I was into Happy Hardcore (still love it!). I stopped going to raves when I got too deep into drugs, and I haven’t been to one again. I miss the music and dancing. But raves and drugs go hand in hand, so I stay far away.
  6. I have one tattoo. I went on a field trip with my fellow theater club members (International Thespian Society). We went to Venice Beach, California (remember, I lived in AZ at the time, so it was a one hour plane trip). I was only 16, but there was a tattoo shop that all the underage kids went to called Sk8 Shop tattoo. I went in on a whim, showed them my actual ID, and they agreed to tattoo me. I had to pick something quick before they changed their minds, so I picked a dragon back piece and had them shrink it down to ankle size. It was the worst pain in my life. I won’t say I regret it…but I’ll only say I’m older now, and might have chosen something different. This is the problem with tattoos as a teenager. Your tastes always change.
  7. I also have my tongue pierced. That was also a sixteen year old me decision. There was a new tattoo and piercing place that opened up in Scottsdale, where I’m from. They claimed later that they didn’t know they needed parental permission. They pierced my cartilage a couple times, and I finally asked them to pierce my tongue. I wanted to be able to stick it out at people when mocking them and have a cute little stud. Plus, it was super popular in the late 90s to early 2000s. When the guy did it, he said, “Don’t move or I’ll split your tongue in two.” I was paralyzed with fear. When he was done, he said, “Just kidding!” and I wanted to end him.

So that’s all you’ll get out of me today. Lots o’ skeletons in the ol’ closet…but you’ll have to wait until next time for more. Lol.
The nominees:

Drumroll, please….

I can’t just nominate anyone because a lot of you have already done this tag. So I’m saying, if you’re my friend on here, tag, you’re it!! If you haven’t done this tag…then consider yourself nominated. Ha!!

Can’t wait to see some answers. I showed you mine, now it’s time for you to show me yours! (Sorry, that came out wrong…)

  1. (speechless) Sorry you had a hard time growing up. I’m glad that you are changing for the better. The only pierce I have are ears pierce, but that was done when I was a baby. Thanks for the mushy stuffs. So far, it seems like we like the same books and have our love for the library, it’s not hard for me to support your blog because I think you are doing the same with mine 🙂

    1. I’m definitely all about supporting your blog! I am team Jasmine! Whoop whoop!
I got my ears pierced at eight years old, and it turns out I’m allergic to anything in my lobes that’s NOT gold. So I let them close. I only have my cartilage ones now. At least with those I can wear anything.
Thanks for the kind words back. I one day want to write a creative nonfiction about my adolescence, because it gets even crazier than that. Police, restraining orders, a stepfather with one eye…things were crazy growing up. And my dad’s a lawyer and my mom was a typical suburban housewife. Because of their shared drug use, things got cray cray,
Thanks again for the nomination! 😘

      1. A memoir should do it 🙂 I am allergic to fake jewelries too. 18k gold works for me. I wear the one my mom gave and don’t take if off. It doesn’t bother me when I sleep. Most often I forget it’s there.

    2. Aww, that’s sweet that your mom gave you an 18kt piece of jewelry. Treasure it always!
I think they need to stop making jewelry out of nickel: my wrist and neck turn green, and my ears get infected. Obviously, I must be allergic to nickel. I never tried sterling silver in my lobes, though. I might’ve been able to handle that.

  2. Wow! I feel like I know so much more about you after reading through this post.. I have to say, you had a difficult childhood/adolescent years, but here you are, on your last stretch in college 🙂 That’s amazing, so many kudos to you! I love how you never thought you’d be at teacher, and here you are, life always manages to surprise us doesn’t it?

    1. It certainly does!
This is why I want to teach: to help young people get through the toughest formative years. I know what it’s like to think no one gets it, you know?
Thanks for the kudos! I like that we have the opportunity to get to know each other through we live so far from each other. I think it’s what makes blogging so great!
Thanks for reading my post. 😊

      1. Of course! I used to want to be a teacher when I was young for the exact same reasons! Now, I want to be a lawyer so that I can be influential to people, although it is in a different way.

I agree, blogging does open up the door for people to meet others and it’s amazing 🙂

  3. Sciences? wow, this stuff has always been way above my comprehension… physics, chemistry, all of that stuff, my noggin just cannot fathom! XD barely got through maths in highschool… I was meant to stay for summer-school with the near 70 year old teacher but he said because he would rather go fishing and I look like a nice girl he would give me a grade so we both wouldn’t have to sit in a classroom! hehehe

A drug addict? That was a bomb and brave of you to share. My hat off to you! Congratulations on turning a new page in your life. *fist bumps*. My husband has been off alcohol for 15 years and I am so totally proud of him and any person who is able to just go- fuck that shit, I’m gonna take a total 180 degrees.

But jaysus, the stuff that was done in teenage years eh? Just reading about that rave thing… Do you still have the outfits? Like the bracelets and stuff? Is that the stuff like- glowsticks and neon colors? 😀 I used to be a solid (hehehe, solid is probably the wrong word here) rap-fan. Like proper proper into it and now I can’t stand the bloody tunes XD Metal all the way!

And here’s another fist bump for tattoos and piercings… darn it, we’ll end up with swollen fists here! I got a lip piercing when I was 16, mom sat next to me. I’d still have it if my boss’s wife didn’t make a point that if I wanted to keep my job, it would have to go… pffft. working in a bloody take away and no lip piercings? XD

This was a great post, it’s nice to get to know you and you’re awesome obvs, because you could take my scary jokes the other day! 🙂

    1. That is so funny about the job! I was working at a place called Brookstone at the mall when I did it (it’s like a Sharper Image store), and there was a policy: no body piercings. So when I got it done, I was off a couple days, and I figured I would just switch it out for a clear one like a fellow coworker did (I know, I be smart). Well, they paged me (gosh, I’m dating myself here), and I asked my friend to call work and say I couldn’t come to the phone and that I was sick. I had just gotten my tongue pierced for crying out loud! I could barely talk. Well, she called them, and (she told me later that she thought she recognized the voice) told them I couldn’t come to the phone because I HAD JUST GOTTEN MY TONGUE PIERCED. Needless to say, they pulled me in the office next time I worked, and said I could stay if I took it out; they said they saw me having a “bright future” there. I had a choice: take it out and stay or keep it and leave.
I was 16 years old! I was like, see ya!! 👊👊🖐🖐<—fist bump, then blow it up
I'm happy I'm sober now. Things are so much clearer. Lol.
Yeah, I was a raver with the full glow sticks and bright colors and animal backpacks. I still have all my gear. I still love it. I just think candy kids have died out.
And the science? I thought I could do it…but I think I had brain damage after the drugs. I just couldn't memorize the parts of the heart or carbon chains. Aced medical terminology, but that was fun.
Glad you liked it. I figured I could do a post where I'm like, I love ice cream, but who cares? Don't we all? Who doesn't love ice cream?? (You better not say you, girl).
I just think we have the same sense of humor. I love it!! 😎🤗

      1. Oh, I have a feeling we are going to be besties.
I’m sorry I made you snort-laugh. Well, kinda sorry, kinda proud.
        🤓
Of course I know Gene. I used to watch their reality show. I had the biggest crush on his son, because I’m a weirdo.

  4. These are amazing facts! I’m really sorry you had a tough childhood and turned to drugs though, it must have been really difficult for you but at least you got clean and the fact that you haven’t looked back either is just amazing as well! 🙂
I’m a massive Simpsons fan as well, I have Tapped out on my iPad and I’ll play it on the train if I’ve just finished a book and don’t want to start a new one yet! It’s one of the only games I have on my iPad (the other being Temple Run!)
Also it was interesting learning how you decided to become a teacher as well. It’s interesting what draw people down their career paths isn’t it? I never saw myself doing what I am now but honestly I love my job and can’t see myself doing anything else! 😀

      1. That’s all right! 🙂
It seems like you must be, it’s still very impressive! Something you should be proud of as well!
I’ll see if I can look you up, not really sure how to add people on Tapped Out, I only just discovered the game so my Springfield isn’t that impressive though! 🙂

      2. Whatever you want to do! My SF is a mess right now from so many events in a row, but I love tapping robots and sending them through black holes! And Stephen Hawking! In my town! Love it.

    1. Hey, it’s all good. Everyone is bound to start at one point. You gotta start somewhere! I just don’t have many friends that I know outside the game.
It’s easy to add friends: just click on the friends link, where the other (default) Springfield is that you can visit, and you click on the bottom right corner. There’s a place for FB friends and then the last tab lets you search a name. You should be able to type in my name and hit search. Or if you prefer, you can give me yours and I can add you!

      1. I don’t actually have an account so you may just see me as anonymous, maybe I should start again and actually create an account or something. I dunno. It’s something I just mess around with for fun if I’m bored on the train to work! 🙂
Next time I’m in the game I’ll definitely try adding you, and if it doesn’t work I’ll create an account start again and then add you 😀

  5. Nice post! I just got tagged for this, twice. Hah!

Ironically, I’m going out of education and you’re going into it. I just couldn’t keep up with the standards, and I saw so many little kids struggle. It was hard. Here I am now, going into a social work major; with hopes to open a non-profit tutoring and advising center for Title One schools. At least I can put my education studies to use and tutor/advise students on ways I know how to teach effectively. ❤
