I messaged the author of Surfacing in regards to whether he will follow it up with a sequel. This is his response! (I love hearing back from authors that I enjoy!!)

I just read your review for Surfacing – thank you so much! Really made my day!

lol quite honestly, I’m not really sure what’s in store for Zoe and Balt. Personally, I went into it thinking of it as a stand alone story and, as you aptly mentioned, wanted to leave it open-ended like “The Giver.” 

There isn’t a plan for a sequel in the cards, but I can say I wouldn’t be totally against continuing the story. I guess we’ll just have to see what the future holds…

I do have some other things in the works but, unfortunately, my agent quit the business so I’ve had to start my writing career from stage 1 again. The book I wrote after Surfacing wasn’t able to find a home but I’m getting some good early feedback from agents with the newest one I wrote. Hopefully things work out ::fingers crossed:: 

Anyways, thank you so much for the review and spreading the word about my book! If you or any of your students have any questions about it, shoot them my way and I’ll gladly answer them!

Well, there you have it…not a sequel to Surfacing for now, but some other books coming down the pike…I guess that will ride me over!

I offered to review other books by Mr. Magro, and I hope I get a chance to do that! I really like his writing style.

So, don’t let this discourage you from reading Surfacing, as I don’t regret it. It’s just a little open-ended, but still worth the adventure!!

  3. He seems like a really nice person, and it’s great he got back to you about your query and that he read and loved your review as well. It’s a shame there’s no sequel in the works at the moment but I guess never say never. Still it will be interesting to see what he comes out with next. Obviously Surfacing was a great book based on your review so I’m sure whatever he releases next will be just as great too! 😀

    1. Yes, it would be awesome if he remembers me when it comes time to publish his next book.
      One of my friends, Jenny Lynne, wrote a book called “Above the Sky,” and I told her how awesome it was and that it needed a sequel, and she wrote one!! She even sent me some bookmarks from a book fair! One of my fave author friends so far.
      (She even changed the cover bc the old one was so unappealing)
      It’s cool to talk to authors!

      1. That would be pretty cool. Wow that’s great about your friend Jenny Lynne as well, and it’s great she released another book too. 🙂
        Oh definitely, it was one of the things I loved so much about attending YALC, meeting and talking to the authors!:D

    2. Jenny just let me know that she’s ready to let me beta read the next book in her series! I’m her biggest fan.
      I’m going to post my old reviews for her books and do a Q and A with her. I believe in her and she’ll offer copies of her book to those who are interested. It’s an awesome dystopian read.
      You better fly out here and go to YALLfest with me! Lol

        I just want to have enough money to buy a Fairy Loot box…I think it would be so much fun! I have to wait until my financial aid goes through (or if it does at all), and then hopefully I will know if I can part with $30 or not. 💸💸💸

      Oh, I’d never offer you a book that you had to buy!
      But maybe not right now, if you have a ton of books…

      1. I brought more today 🙂 this is why I have no money, I have no self control. But yeah I do have a fair bit on my to-read list at the moment. Still I’ll definitely be checking out her work on Goodreads, she sounds like a great author and an amazing person as well! 😀
