My Awesome NetGalley Approvals!!

I’ve been meaning to share there with you guys, but with work and school I’ve been super busy…

I got approved for some major titles on a book reviewer’s favorite site, NetGalley!

These titles make me feel like I’ve finally made it in the book blogging community, as some of these are coming out from big publisher houses. I’m going to list the lastest ones first, then just show you my list of the books I have to review before I request more galleys (because the optimum feedback score is 80%, and I’m at 77%, so no more until I finish one or two…I want my ratio to stay high!

First…

  • Ever The Hunted – Erin Summerhill – December 27, 2016 (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s Book Group)

Seventeen year-old Britta Flannery is at ease only in the woods with her dagger and bow. She spends her days tracking criminals alongside her father, a legendary bounty hunter—that is, until her father is murdered. The alleged killer is none other than Cohen McKay, her father’s former apprentice. The only friend she’s ever known. The boy she once loved who broke her heart. She must go on a dangerous quest in a world of warring kingdoms, mad kings, and dark magic to find the real killer. But Britta wields more power than she knows. And soon she will learn what has always made her different will make her a force to be reckoned with.

Beautiful cover! #coverlove! Many of these galleys have gorgeous covers! At least this galley came with it, unlike some of the others that came with a simple title page and broke my heart (ahem, I’m sure you guys know what I’m saying…)

  • Wintersong – S. Jae-Jones – February 7, 2017 (St. Martin’s Press)

Dark, romantic and unforgettable, a fantastical coming-of-age story for fans of Labyrinth and The Darkest Part of the Forest.

Deep in his terrifying realm underground, the cold and forbidding Goblin King casts a dark shadow over nineteen-year-old Liesl. Her grandmother has always warned her to follow the old laws, for every year on the longest night of winter, she claims, the Goblin King will emerge into the waking world in search of his eternal bride. Sensible and plain, Liesl knows it’s her duty to keep her beautiful sister Käthe safe from harm. But Liesl finds refuge only in her wild, captivating music, composed in secret in honor of the mysterious Goblin King.

When Käthe is stolen by the Goblin King, Liesl knows she must set aside her childish fantasies to journey to the Underground and save her. Drawn despite herself to the strange, beautiful world she finds—and the mysterious man who rules it—she finds herself facing an impossible choice. With time and the old laws working against her, Liesl must discover who she truly is before her fate is sealed.

Set at the turn of the 19th century, when young upstart composers like Beethoven were forever altering the sound of music, S. Jae-Jones’ richly imagined debut spins a spellbinding tale of music, love, sisterhood, and a young woman’s search for self-actualization.

Did you see the part that says “for fans of Labyrinth?” Umm, that’s me over here! I wish this galley came with this cover. Also a #coverlove situation.

  • Freeks – Amanda Hocking – January 3, 2017 (St. Martin’s Press)

Welcome to Gideon Davorin’s Traveling Sideshow, where necromancy, magical visions, and pyrokinesis are more than just part of the act…

Mara has always longed for a normal life in a normal town where no one has the ability to levitate or predict the future. Instead, she roams from place to place, cleaning the tiger cage while her friends perform supernatural feats every night.

When the struggling sideshow is miraculously offered the money they need if they set up camp in Caudry, Louisiana, Mara meets local-boy Gabe…and a normal life has never been more appealing.

But before long, performers begin disappearing and bodes are found mauled by an invisible beast. Mara realizes that there’s a sinister presence lurking in the town with its sights set on getting rid of the sideshow freeks. In order to unravel the truth before the attacker kills everyone Mara holds dear, she has seven days to take control of a power she didn’t know she was capable of—one that could change her future forever.

Bestselling author Amanda Hocking draws readers inside the dark and mysterious world of Freeks.
Been wanting to request this ever since I knew Hocking was coming out with another book…then Jasmine told me it was on NetGalley, and I didn’t want to request too many books, but I couldn’t resist after the Wake books.

So those are the new three that I got approved for all at once, and I was psyched! But there are others, like my wishes that came true (remember those two? Or did I only tell you about one? Because I got another one fulfilled!)

My Granted “Wishes”

  • Toward a Secret Sky – Heather MacLean – April 4, 2017 (Blink)

Toward a Secret Sky by New York Times bestselling author Heather Maclean is a new breed of YA novel: an intelligent adventure-quest crossed with a sweeping, forbidden love story. A mix of reality and possibility, this fast-paced thriller will appeal to fans of Stephenie Meyer and Dan Brown as it leads the reader on a breathless flight through the highlands of Scotland, the secret city under London, and history itself.

Shortly after 17-year-old Maren Hamilton is orphaned and sent to live with grandparents she’s never met in Scotland, she receives an encrypted journal from her dead mother that makes her and everyone around her a target. It confirms that her parents were employed by a secret, international organization that’s now intent on recruiting her. As Maren works to unravel the clues left behind by her mother, a murderous madness sweeps through the local population, terrorizing her small town. Maren must decide if she’ll continue her parents’ fight or stay behind to save her friends.

With the help of Gavin, an otherworldly mercenary she’s not supposed to fall in love with, and Graham, a charming aristocrat who is entranced with her, Maren races against the clock and around the country from palatial estates with twisted labyrinths to famous cathedrals with booby-trapped subterranean crypts to stay ahead of the enemy and find a cure. Along the way, she discovers the great truth of love: that laying down your life for another isn’t as hard as watching them sacrifice everything for you.

Honestly, this was pretty cool. This was the first time I knew that hitting the “Wish For” button actually did anything! And once again, just look at that beautiful cover. Actually, so far all the covers are super gorgeous.

  • Unfolding – Jonathan Friesen – January 31, 2017 (Blink)

Jonah wishes he could get the girl, but he’s a monster and she’s the most perfect girl he knows.

And their futures seemed destined to fork apart: Jonah’s physical condition is debilitating, and epileptic seizures fill his life with frustration, keeping him tied to his parents. Whereas when clouds fill the sky, Stormi can see beyond; she can see things before they happen. And one of those things is her need to leave town.

Jonah ventures out with Stormi to expose a secret the town has been keeping, as well as protect him from the town leaders (including his father), who want to ostracize Stormi instead of understanding her gift. And along the way, he discovers that neither his deformity nor epilepsy defines him anymore. He’s also discovered that being in love is more powerful than being in control.

I honestly don’t remember wishing for this, but I noticed that both this and my other “wished for” book are both from the same publishing company, so that might have something to do with two wishes being fulfilled.

The Rest…

  • Gilded Cage – Vic James – February 14, 2017 (Random House – Ballatine)

For readers of Victoria Aveyard and Kiera Cass comes a darkly fantastical debut set in a modern England where magically gifted aristocrats rule—and commoners are doomed to serve.

NOT ALL ARE FREE.

NOT ALL ARE EQUAL.

NOT ALL WILL BE SAVED.

Our world belongs to the Equals—aristocrats with magical gifts—and all commoners must serve them for ten years.

But behind the gates of England’s grandest estate lies a power that could break the world.

A girl thirsts for love and knowledge.

Abi is a servant to England’s most powerful family, but her spirit is free. So when she falls for one of their noble-born sons, Abi faces a terrible choice. Uncovering the family’s secrets might win her liberty—but will her heart pay the price?

A boy dreams of revolution.

Abi’s brother, Luke, is enslaved in a brutal factory town. Far from his family and cruelly oppressed, he makes friends whose ideals could cost him everything. Now Luke has discovered there may be a power even greater than magic: revolution.

And an aristocrat will remake the world with his dark gifts.

He is a shadow in the glittering world of the Equals, with mysterious powers no one else understands. But will he liberate—or destroy?

*This one I’m reading with Jasmine as a buddy read as soon as we both catch up with our library books…luckily we have some time before it comes out!*

  • The Bone Witch – Rin Chupeco – March 7, 2017 (SOURCEBOOKS Fire)

In the captivating launch of this darkly lyrical fantasy series, Tea can raise the dead, but resurrection comes at a price…

Let me be clear: I never intended to raise my brother from his grave, though he may claim otherwise. if there’s anything I’ve learned from him in the years since, it’s that the dead hide truths as well as the living.

Tea is different from the other witches in her family. Her gift for necromancy makes her a bone witch, who are feared and ostracized in her community. But under the guidance of an older, wiser bone witch, Tea learns to wield her magic in the face of dark forces and the deceit of those who would plot against her- including the ruling royals, who are waging their own war for control of her homeland…

I know a lot of you got this galley. So you know what I mean when I say it sucks sometimes that certain books come without covers, because WILL YOU JUST LOOK AT THIS COVER?? OMG. #superdupercoverlove! I’d love to have this just as a poster.

  • Theta (The Omega Series #2) – Lizzy FordSeptember 30, 2016 (Captured Press)

The world ends in four months. Alessandra can stop it – but she can’t do it alone.

The mind of Alessandra, the Oracle of Delphi, is under the control of the Supreme Magistrate, a brilliant politician determined to use her goddess-like powers to conquer deities and humans alike. With her thoughts and powers compromised, she begins to question her ability to stop the apocalyptic future revealed to her in cryptic visions – and who her enemy really is

Outside of Washington DC, the fight for survival hinders the Silent Queen’s ability to launch her attack against the political elite and the gods as quickly as planned. An unlikely ally saves her life – but it’s the emergence of the Bloodline’s hereditary curse that warns her she may not survive long enough to start the war she’s spent her life preparing for.

The Grotesque Prince, Adonis, has spent his life being defined by others. On a journey of self-discovery mandated by the goddess Artemis, he returns to the lands he once ruled, four thousand years ago. Instead of uncovering the object Artemis tasked him to find, Adonis’ quest leads him to a mysterious figure possessed by much more than answers.

I read Omega by Ford and fell in love. I’ve had to put it down while I finish my overdue library books, but so far so good. I love her style and I’m excited to finish this book!
So I had to share: this is probably a very self-indulgent post. But I’ve been so excited and this isn’t really like a tag or meme (even The NetGalley Tag doesn’t work for this, so I guess it’s just an update…I can sulk all day about the one denial I got for Roseblood, or I can celebrate the things I did get approved for, which includes my Edelweiss galley for Fear The Drowning Deep. So I’m going to celebrate instead!!)

What galleys are on your NetGalley list? Let’s brag together! We are all awesome bloggers who get to read books no one else has access to yet…how special are we!!!

Happy Reading, my fellow ARC addicts!

    1. Some of them do, don’t they?
I do t feel legitimate until someone gives me something cool for free. And now I feel too legit to quit (hey, hey!)…you probably don’t even know that song. I’m such a dork.
But yeah…getting free galleys is the best perk of all, isn’t it? Now if I got them in the mail from the publisher like Ashley does, I’d be in heaven! Lol! 👼

Oooh you need to check out socialbookco. They don’t send ARCs but they do send you books to review! My first one is on its way 😬😬😬
And nope not sure I know that song. But I can never really guess a song from reading the lyrics. Im not cool enough for that lol.
Free galleys are the best. It would be awesome to get hard copies sent to us!!
        It might happen one day.

Oh I called my horse MC as in MC Hammer!! HAHAHA
His dad was Unstoppable… So ‘Can’t Stop This’ came to mind and so we called him MC…. I regret that decision lol. Not sure why I couldn’t have given him a normal name!!

SocialBookCo are sending my The Shadow Queen!! I am sooo excited that book looks amazing!

No I just requested it on Socialbookco.
You have a wishlist (5 books) and if they get them in they send you an email saying would you like this book
You can accept or decline the book. If you accept they send it to you for free. You just have to provide a review by the due date and promote Socialbookco in your review 🙂 Simples!!! You should definitley check it out!!

    2. I signed up, but I don’t know if they do ARCs, so I feel stupid using three of my requests on books that haven’t come out yet. I hope they approve me after that! Thanks so much for telling me about it! I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Yeah I don’t think they do ARCs. You are just being prepared 🙂 You’ll be first off the rank when they get them in haha.
Thats okay! It’s a great program thing even if they aren’t ARCs
My fingers are crossed for you 🙂

    1. That’s not bad: 74%? I think that might be the same as mine. People see what you’re approved for, and the dates the books come out, and they probably understand the under 80. I didn’t think I would get approved under the big 8-0, but I guess it all depends on your approvals! And your blog maybe?

      1. Annie

Yeah, I don’t really know how they decide. I spent a few months when I was approved for everything and lately I’ve had some rejections… That’s blogging life 😂

      1. That’s pretty cool! I wish I was in touch with publishers like that…well, I just started my blog, so I should be patient. I’m sure once I get going and established better I might be able to do that.
        Awesome!

        Liked by 1 person

    1. And that works? You should write a post with tips on how to do that! Or just give me pointers, lol!
When I’m established more with a larger following, I hope I can contact publishers and show them my blog has something to offer…🙌🙌🙌

Freeks looks amazing! I’m very hit and miss with Netgalley approvals so I tend to request and review them one at a time 😛 have fun with your new reads!

    1. Oh, I tried that! It didn’t work. Bc of my library finds, I have fallen behind, and then a book appears that I would love to have, so I request it before they run out of galleys. So that’s how I ended up with those.
But they all look amazing to me…Unfolding is one I don’t remember wishing for, but I hope it’s good. I hope I don’t have to DNF any of them! And some don’t come out for awhile, so I’ll probably have them for awhile.

SO MANY AMAZING BOOKS!!! I literally squealed when I was approved for Wintersong and The Bone Witch. And I totally know what you mean about the boring review title pages. Ugh! Happy reading!! 🙂

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you got the best of the bunch!
I know, why do they wound us with ugly title pages? They know we request based 50% of the time on the cover alone! Then give us title pages? It makes me die a little on the inside…😵

    2. Oh my goodness yes, I feel the pain and can relate! It’s like they figure because they’re eBooks the covers don’t matter…well, they do!! I look at my eBook shelf just like I would a regular book shelf! I don’t have money or room for physical books, so having the pretty cover on an eBook means the world to me!! I wish when the book was published they would update the review copies with a completed version of the book to keep, you know? Or at least let us have the damn covers in the first place!! Ahhh!! 😫

You really do have quite a few waiting for you on NetGalley, eh?! Awesome choices though! I have The Bone Witch, and Wintersong waiting for me too. Been playing with the idea of requesting Ever the Hunted….and now I’m tempted to request Freeks because of you! Haha. I didn’t even know it existed, but I like the cover and it sounds like it would be a fun read.

Awesome! I’m not sure if I should request The Bear and the Nightingale on NetGalley or not, since I requested a physical ARC of it…but haven’t yet heard back :/

You have to email the publicity team of the specific publisher who will be releasing the book! Sometimes they get back to you and sometimes they don’t haha

    1. Interesting! I don’t know if I have the balls to do that! I think I would be too embarrassed to ask and be turned down…lol.
I guess I’ll wait for my one year blogoversary before I start requesting physical ARCs. 😊

I’ll check out the link and maybe I’ll try not to be like the Cowardly Lion 🦁 and get myself some courage!!

  4. Whoooooohoooo!! 😀 I think St.Martin’s Press is seriously my favourite publisher at the moment. So many awesome books! I got approved for Freeks as well and it’s one of the 13 ARC’s I still need to finish up before the end of the year. I’m at 88% though because I was smart enough to stop requesting shit and put the pressure even higher than it is already!

For NOW! I’m a Labyrinth fan as well. Oh FFS, I guess this means I need to request it anyways :’).

P.s.-You already made it in the book blogging community before these approvals as well ❤

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Aww, thank you! Yes, I love St. Martin’s Press too! They are super with approvals. HarperCollins seems to always deny me. So I’m happy. You probably have more feedback that you’ve given to keep you at 88% with 13 galleys: I have only done 24 reviews on there: which seemed like a lot to me, but I only started requesting maybe five or less months ago. Plus I used to get denied a lot so it made me afraid to request and have my approved to denied ratio be too high. They look at that apparently!
Anything that relates to Labyrinth must be read and worshipped!!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. They damn well are! I got accepted for a bunch of Harper Collins books, but only throughout Edelweiss for some weird reason. I’ve one about 40 reviews I think. But the key to it was to stop requesting books a while ago, really. I’m only window shopping on NG now! Yikes, they do look at that? O_o I got denied so many times, I think it’s about 50/50 now. Or maybe even 60/40 where the denied requests are on the winning hand. Crap. Now I’m afraid to request Wintersong!

        Liked by 1 person

    2. The only reason I know what they look at is from NetGalley itself. When I first joined, I got so many denials that I went to their help page to find out what to do. The help page tells you exactly what the publisher sees: they see your ratio of how many approved to how many denied! So when I found that out I started a whole new account because I figured all I had was denials, so no one would approve me. Before I got a chance to use the new account though, I suddenly got approved for a title by a small publisher. I reviewed the book and they put me on their auto-approval list.
So after that, I was extremely careful. I didn’t request ANY popular books and only requested one at a time from the smaller publishers. Curiosity Quills loves me, lol…they own several branches of smaller companies and apparently I requested and got approved for a lot of their books.
Finally I got approved for Crosstalk, a book from Random House, and I was over the moon!
I haven’t gotten rid of the second account (I guess it has always been a fail-safe), but I know if you work for a bookstore or are a librarian, you get your pick! Us regular folk just try and either fail or get approved. My approvals now either outweigh my denials or are about the same. I’m just happy I get approved for anything.
(After this post, there were still 2 pending requests that I had been waiting on…I got approved for The Bear and The Nightingale and just got my denial for Caraval. It’s so hit and miss. Caraval is Flatiron Press: who the hell are they?? And they deny me? Super offended! 😂)

What do you have on NetGalley? Like, what are some titles you’re excited to read? (And Edelweiss sucks: I have three pending requests and they never get answered! The other girls are in the same boat!)

I was a NetGalley member before I even started blogging. But I’m pretty sure you were blogging before me… I started my blog August 8 this year. Two months ago 😊 Well, I’ve got lots on my NetGalley shelf I’m excited to read… like A Darkly Beating Heart, All Her Secrets, Safe With Me, The Row, Kiss Cam, The Girl Before, The Daemoniac… and others. What about you? Have you requested any of those?

        Liked by 1 person

    2. No. I haven’t heard of any of them! Are they YA? Wow, I feel like I’m missing some major titles here, lol!
You’re right, you did apparently start after me. I started some time in July. I have been meaning to check the exact date so I know when my sixth month blogoversary is! Wow, can you believe we’ve been doing this for almost that long?
I always thought you came before me because your blog looks so professional, and I designed mine on my iPad, lmao! (I don’t really have a comp because my mom works from home so she is on it all the time).

      1. Megan @ bookslayerReads

Yep, most of them are YA. Except Safe With Me. I can’t believe we’ve been blogging that long either. It’s exciting! And thank you for the compliments, but your blog looks amazing too! I spend most of my time on my iPad, so I designed my blog on my iPad too. The only thing I use the laptop for now is to write up blog posts so I can color the font and stuff lol. Other than that, I’m always on my iPad. I love it! 😊

    3. Me too! I even still have my Mini 2 that I keep if my Mini 4 starts to get a low battery. And if that goes down, I switch to my iPhone 6S, because it’s almost as good. I’m def an Apple girl, too!
You really think it looks ok? I’m glad because it is so hard to tell…I don’t want it to look ghetto…I’m trying to think up a logo but I’m not exactly the greatest graphic designer. That’s why I went with a theme that was super easy to make pretty. Lol.
But yours…stupendous. I think we are awesome new bloggers! Look at us already: getting galleys and writing reviews and having actual followers! It rocks! 😄😄😄😄😄

    1. Thank you so much!
I know I’ve got my hands full, but I couldn’t resist the titles I requested, and the two wish fulfillments were totally unexpected so I didn’t count those into my reading at first.
I just finally for approved for The Bear and The Nightingale, which took a long time to go through, so add another to the giant stack, lol!

      Liked by 1 person

    2. Ahh, yes! If I stopped picking up books now, I would still have enough books from purchases and the library (and from galleys and authors) to keep me reading constantly for probably a year.
      Definitely set there, lmao! 😂

  6. These are some amazing ARCs Stephanie. I have Wintersong and Gilded Cage as well (I got Wintersong from NetGalley but managed to get a physical ARC of Gilded Cage while I was at YALC) and I cannot wait to get started on both of them.
This is a lot of ARCs so I’m guessing you have so much reading to get started on! I still have three ARCs outstanding on NetGalley but I’ve forbidden myself from requesting any more until I’ve read and reviewed all three. I like trying to keep my approval rating about 80% but all three are some of my eagerly anticipated releases so I can’t wait to get started.
I hope you enjoy all of yours as well! 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. What are the other two ARCs from NG, if you don’t mind me asking?
No, I completely agree with the 80% rule: I am at 73% and plan to read some of them as soon as these library books are caught up and I have a lull in the due dates again!
Wanna do any buddy reads at a future date?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. No that’s all right, I got Heartless by Marissa Meyer and Caraval by Stephanie Garber, both are highly highly anticipated reads for me!
Well hopefully given all the ARCs you do have it shouldn’t take you too long to get to 80%. And yeah I’d love to do a buddy read with you at some point, any thoughts or preferences as to which book?

        Liked by 1 person

    2. No, I have no preferences…you’re so lucky to have scored Heartless though! What a great ARC! And by the time I asked for Caraval, they were out of galleys. Figures…don’t those both come out soon? I’m hoping Caraval does: I already know Heartless releases in 3 days…I’ve been doing a mental countdown!
But a buddy read with you would be awesome…maybe you and I should do Wintersong? I’m supposed to start Gilded Cage with Jasmine, though I’ll have to go slow to balance that with other books that are due! But luckily Wintersong has some time on it still. 😊

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yeah I was thrilled when I got the approval email, for Heartless and Caraval. Actually in the UK Heartless isn’t being released until February next year! So I was extra thrilled to get my hands on that one just because it’s less time to wait to read it. But in America it’s released soon, and I think for Caraval it’s January next year, so actually not long to go at the moment.
Ohh, I hope you enjoy Gilded Cage, and yeah we can do a buddy read of Wintersong, it’s not released until the beginning of February so we have plenty of time to get around to that one! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

    1. I would love to do a Buddy Read! Whenever you want, let me know! Jasmine and I are doing Gilded Cage, but I asked her to wait for a bit because I’m a bit behind on my reading. But since we have time, I’m so down! I think that would be wonderful. 😊

      Liked by 1 person

  7. Great NetGalleys!! These books all sound really good! 🙂 And good job getting close to that 80%! I’m at a lowly 37% right now – I was doing pretty good, and then I requested a bunch of books and got approved for them, so I’m back to having to build my rating up again. Trying to stay away and not request more! It’s so tempting to request!! Especially when the publish date is so far away…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I know…I’m not even going to go on there until I get at least one book from there read. Then I can perk again. If a book is meant to be, it’ll be meant to be, you know? I have a bunch of great titles, so I’m a happy camper!

      1. I know what you mean – each publisher seems to have a different method for approval. I think I’m pretty lucky being in Australia – I’ve received some awesome books, and I assume that is by virtue of the fact there are so few people here asking for them.

    1. Yes, you are lucky. Aussies get offered some good titles! But the other hassles you deal with are prob frustrating (do you guys have to pay a VAT tax? Bc that sucks if you do!)…all the giveaways that are US only, or the waiting for a book to be available there when it’s out here…that would be annoying. But you DO get some beautiful covers, and one day I’m going to see if there’s a diff between your versions and ours! Sammie from ohbookish is going to swap our diff version of Three Dark Crowns bc I love your guys’ version. I also love your Schwab covers better!

      1. Yeah, we do have other frustrations – release dates can be painful especially if you want a physical copy of the book. I don’t know what VAT is but we have a GST (goods and services tax) that applies to books. You can also factor in the $30 shipping if I order a physical copy of something from amazon – which I will generally only do if I’ve exhausted all other avenues.

The covers thing is interesting – I’d love to sit with the marketing teams that have those discussions and find out why they make the choices they do for the different markets. I think our covers tend to be the same as the UK (benefit of still being a colony I suppose).

    2. The GST is just like other countries’ VAT tax: we don’t have that tax and I think the tax is BS. A tax on BOOKS?? Pathetic.
I feel Aussies get the shaft. I’m sorry it’s so hard for you to get books. If I ever can do anything to help: get you a copy that hasn’t come out there or something, just let me know. 😊😉

  8. Yay! NetGalley for win and of course you are a legit book blogger 🙂 Ain’t no one needing NetGalley to say so! 😛 *I’m probably never getting accepted for an ARC again after saying this*

All these books look really interested and I look forward to reading what you thought of them. Happy reading! 🙂

  10. Oh, you got approved for so many awesome titles!
These are the ones I want to read from your collection: Freeks by Amanda Hocking, Wintersong (tbh I just found our about it, but as I understood it’s faeries so now I’m dying to read it), and I also want to read Gilded Cage and The Bone Witch.

Of course, I haven’t requested any of them bc I’m ashamed bc of my ration (only 66% atm), but plan to request Freeks and that Wintersong after my ratio get a bit higher, even though I already know I’ll be declined…

There’s no book to brag honestly. The only proof copy in ya genre I got is Roseblood (and I was beyond happy), but that one I got in physical format. I can’t even tell you how happy I was.

I also have high hopes to receive new title by Sophie Kinsella, but until the book shows up I can’t be sure…
I already had situations where I receive an email from publishers that I’ll get an ARC, but the ARC never showed up. That happened multiple times from three different publishers. Guess who’s one of the publishers? Yes, that one!
But never mind, life goes on.. Maybe it just got lost or stolen in the mail.

    1. I’m so excited you got Roseblood! I so hoped for an approval, but alas, I got denied. I have talked to Howard on Twitter and she keeps telling me about giveaways to enter, but I have yet to win one. If it’s meant to be it’s meant to be, you know?
I’m not surprised that particular publisher screwed you over. I’m not happy with them. I think they need to work on their evaluative skills. But physical ARCs in any form is a laudable feat! Good for you! 👏👏👏
I try to be a blogger champion cheerleader, so I’m always happy (and a little jealous, but I’m getting better) when people get ARCs. My score will go up on NG once I review the book I finished, and I’ll finally get the 25 books reviewed badge. I try to stay away from NG right now to focus on the amazing library books, since those are due first. But every time I got on there, there’s a book I’m dying to read. I have to be careful: there’s nothing worse than pissing off publishers. Curiosity Quills had me as an auto-approval (my one of only two), but none of their books lately have appealed to me, so they removed me. Can’t help it if I’m not interested!
Love talking to you about this! Glad we finally connected! 😊🙌

      1. I’m glad too! 🙂
Ohh, I know what you mean, when it comes to jaleousy, I’m really good. I always tell myself I can always purchase a book later, even if it means years later. I wish I lived in US or UK, bc then there would be libraries, and here even though we have good books, books in English are pretty rare (that’s why I donate books I don’t need anymore to our local library, bc there are ppl who learn English and want to read in it, but can’t bv there’re no books).
But I can’t help but compare myself with some bloggers who seem to get every possible book I want, and most of them in physical format (I’m not talking about ya genre here), and when it comes to that publisher and Edelweiss, I just can’t help but compare myself to that one girl who doesn’t blog for years now and is STILL autoapproved, and her GR reviews are 5 brief sentences long, and I here leave my soul on paper when writing a review, but it doesn’t matter to them. I know you said you want to give up on them, but I feel like I want to request everything from them until they approve me one day, even if that’ll be years from now. It’s like I’m on a mission. 😛
Ohh, I never got autoapproved on Netgalley, but it must be an awesome feeling, like some kind of recognition.
And let’s brag a bit, now when we’re at bedges, I just earned my 50 reviews bedge yesterday. 🙂 Still have to put it on my blog!

    2. Irena, that’s awesome!! Congratulations! I just hit 25 and put mine up there…but 50?? Amazing.
There’s a girl on GR that gets all the galleys and she leaves less than 150 words and then rates it an arbitrary number out of ten: “I like this guy, didn’t like this girl. 6 out of 10.”
Are you kidding me!??! That’s NOT a review.
I swear it seems like there’s no method to their madness.

    3. I’m actually not sure where she’s from, but even if you review two books a day, they should be of some content. I AM friends with her, so I haven’t said anything, and that’s why I am trying to be anonymous and not say who (cause a lot of ppl do this, apparently, especially according to Drew @thetattooedbookgeek), but I just think it’s weak sauce. Even if I ended up with that many followers and review requests, it’s all about quality, you know? I’ve read your reviews, and yours are QUALITY. That’s what I want from a book review. 😉

      1. Thanks! I actually think that it all comes to the question why you’re writing reviews. If she writes them so she could gain more likes and therefor be approved for more books, good for her, but yes, I am aware that those kind of reviewers are some sort of competition to us others, bc of limited number of arcs. If someone is happy to read two books per day, good for them, but like to analyze and take my time with the story (even though I sometimes do end up finishing book pretty fast).
I noticed you write reviews to help teachers and parents to find appropriate books for teens, and to help them decide if they want to read a certain book, and that is one of the greatest reasons to review books out there (in my opinion).
My reason is to be better in English and to read as writer would, because one day I’d like to write my own story and I want to write it in English, publishing a book in Croatian is a dirty job, you have to pay everything and you can’t earn anything.
If I write in English, I can publish it myself and it will cost me, but at least there’s more chance ppl will actually read it and if I earn something, that’s cool, if not, at least I tried.
But in order to write in English, I have to know English the best I can, so this is my reason why I write reviews.
P.S. Sorry for this way too long comment.

    4. I think your English is AMAZING! I would never have known you weren’t from the US. I think it’s very good practice to read books in English and write reviews in English!
When you write your book, I volunteer as a beta reader! 😉

      1. Thank you! I’m glad you think it’s good, and I hope it’ll get even better with time (don’t we all?).
Ohh, okay, I’ll keep my mind on you for beta reading, but that’ll probably be in sth like 2 years bc I’m lame and try to leran EVERYTHING about Ohio bc that’s where I plan to send my mc.
I just hope you won’t hate it, bc it’s not ya.

  11. That is so awesome that you are getting approved! It is super huge and congrats for it! Those covers are all lovely, but Bone Witch is still one of my faves (heartbreak that it didn’t come with a cover!) and I like Ever The Hunted, too. So pwetty!
Good luck with all of them! I’ll keep en eye out for reviews from you. 🙂
