My Review:

I read The Convergence awhile back from ebooksforreview.com, and I loved the book. Tenille got in contact with me, and we have been friends since. When she told me a sequel to The Convergence had been written, I was thrilled to be offered a chance to read it. And now that she’s just had a blog tour for the book’s release, I feel this is the BEST TIME to publish a review of The Keep!

Here’s the first book:

Here’s a little info on the first book:

Hiding unbelievable physical abilities, seventeen-year-old Desiree Morgan buries herself inside the realities of high school. But when Blake Thomas infiltrates her life, all of Desiree’s secrets begin to unravel. With answers come more questions and soon she is entangled in a world of secret societies, human experimentation, perilous power-struggles, and ultimate sacrifice. To escape, Desiree can’t be simply extraordinary…she must redefine the impossible.

THE CONVERGENCE is a story of one girl’s search to understand herself and the realization of what makes her truly great.

My review for The Convergence can be found here: The Convergence Review

But now we are on to book two, The Keep. So let me tell you a little about this book…and why I love Tenille so much!

Desiree Morgan has escaped The Convergence, but she had to leave Blake behind. She didn’t want to, but they need him. But Blake refuses to stay gone. He tells Desiree’s brother, Denny, that The Convergence is no longer after her…that she has been pardoned. She can now go home. And when she gets there, so does Blake.

He insists they have a future. That they can make it work. Dezi is skeptical since she knows The Convergence needs him, and he needs to lead them now that they have no one else. As Converters, both Blake and Dezi have the ability to take energy and do incredible things: they are stronger, faster, and tougher than anyone else. But no one can know about their abilities except other Converters. So as Dezi tries to push Blake away, Blake comes on stronger than ever.

He will win Desi back.

However, Doran is still a threat. As a man who cannot convert, he wants Desi’s abilities, and he’s already tortured her once to get them. He’s willing to do it again…and he’s escaped The Convergence. He’s come for Desi…but leaves after killing her father.

Now alone with only her brother and Blake, the three of them go to hide out at with a different group of Converters until Doran can be caught. Terrence Knightley, the head of a resort called The Keep, seems like a man who has ulterior motives…but Dezi can’t prove it. He runs a resort that has a separate area where the Converters live. Knightley knows that Dezi is special: she can externally convert, which means she can not only improve herself internally, but she can control objects externally as well.

Unfortunately, to be special among Converters is not always a good thing.

Sometimes it can get you killed.

Is It Classroom-Appropriate?

Of course! Tenille’s series is great! Just enough science fiction to make it interesting, but not too much to be overwhelming. I think the first book, The Comvergence, is (of course) a better choice, because that book explains everything.  Sequels aren’t the best books for the classroom. But, if read with the first, it would be helpful. But there’s also a third and final book in the works, so I’m thinking The Convergence would be good for the classroom, and The Keep and the unnamed final book would be good for those readers that want to continue the journey, and want more from the story. Get em sucked in and keep em hooked: that’s the best way to get readers to KEEP reading.

And what’s a better way to “keep” reading than reading “The Keep?” (I know, it’s a lame pun, but let me have it!)

Age Range:

I’m going to just copy exactly what I said for The Comvergence:

“Lexile.com does not have it available…this happens a lot with indie books. I would say you could go as young as 12 with this one. No sex, no swearing. It keeps interest for even those with roaming minds. I’d stick with 12 and up. It’s a nice, clean read.”

Look! My first graphic from Canva! I know it’s nothing special, but I’m working on it:

After living throughout the western U.S., Tenille now claims rural Northern Nevada as her home. If she’s not being consumed by a book—whether her own or another author’s—she’d like to be found horseback riding, backpacking with her high-school sweetheart/husband, or photographing their three beautiful children.

End Result:

Drumroll, please….

★★★★★! Tenille does it again! She’s an amazing writer. Her books are flawless and addicting. I’m pretty sure she could write a menu and I would be enthralled. She’s coming out with something non-Convergence related soon…I can’t say because I don’t know if I’m allowed, but the premise is so right up my alley, and I hope I get to read that one, too!

I’m going to leave you with a little teaser that just shows off Tenille’s writing chops. The woman is talented.

The black, quiet of the night turns my thoughts dark. Maybe death wouldn’t be the worst thing. I’m sure I’ve suffered worse. My eyes drift closed. Maybe when I wake I’ll be gone. All of this over. Denny safe, because—come on—how can you blackmail a dead person? Doren in the hands of Amplified Industries. Blake safe to save the world. The nightmare over, I’d be back with Mom and Dad.

Yes, there are so many things worse than dying.

My heart goes numb at the realization.

I always thought I’d face death with more feeling. That maybe I’d go out in a blaze of fury. Or I would be relieved. Instead, I’m left waiting for it with an uncertainty of feeling that leaves me thinking I’ve already passed. That my soul is empty and just waiting for my body to catch up. The absence of emotion would frighten me if I could feel. Without emotion what do I have to fight with?

I sink back into the cold rock. A light, summer rain falls around me, the damp seeping into me. I drift in my considerations as the night lengthens. The darkness outside matching the blankness inside, I’m left with nothing but time.

Happy Reading, everyone!

*And thank you again to Tenille Berezay for introducing me to Dezi, Denny, and my book boyfriend, Blake*

    1. Yes! It’s not really a “classroom book” but it works for the curriculum. It’s a YA Science Fiction series about certain teens that have abilities. But Tenille writes them well! 😊
But if it’s not your cup o’ tea, I completely understand! A lot of ppl read thrillers and romance and I’m not into those. 😘

  1. I love the name Blake. I’ve been obsessed with it since I read Smut by Karina Halle. The cover of The Keep sort of reminds me of the TV show Lost a little bit. What do you think? This sounds like a cool book. And the covers are pretty intriguing. Wonderful review, Stephanie! 🙂

    1. Thank you, Jillian!! Yes, when I first saw the covers I thought Lost all the way! Personally, I’d prefer some snazzier covers, but this series is pretty fun. I’m not usually one for reading contemporary with science fiction elements but Tenille can write anything, lol.
And I also love the name Blake!!

  2. I only skimmed this review because I haven’t read the first book, although it is on my to-read list and just the fact that you loved it so much means I need to check it out ASAP. Either way you always write amazing reviews so I’m sure this one will be no different and it will only make me more determined to go out and get my hands on this series!
Is this the last book or are there still others to come out? And does this one end on a cliffhanger? Questions I need to know before I binge read the first two and find myself stuck waiting for the next! 😀

    1. Well, there IS another book and Tenille is working on it now. (And she’s working on something retelling related, and I’m so excited! I love retellings!)
It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger: her books never just stop like some books. They end with a task that’s about to be started, so there is that…I would compare it to the endings in the Hunger Games books: they continue but they don’t leave you with no idea what’s going on or someone about to die or anything like that.
She publishes them fast compared to other books: I read The Convergence in the summer, then this only 4 months later…so I don’t think it will be too long of a wait.
Maybe she’ll let you try a RaR copy of The Convergence? She’s on WordPress so she’ll be on here soon commenting, and I know she likes to spread the word about her books! 😊

      1. Ohh, I love retelling as well, so maybe I could start with that one when it’s released. At least now I know to wait until the next book is released though.
See I do like those endings but at the same time I think I’d rather be able to finish one book and then dive straight into the next you know? But either way that’s a really quick turn around, guess you won’t have to wait long for book three to be released either way. 🙂
That would be amazing, though I do have a lot of books on my immediate to-read list, and a few I’ll probably add in just for the hell of it. It sounds like an amazing series though so either way I want to get started on it! 😀

    2. Well, since we are talking about our huge TBR lists, I understand wanting to wait on this,,,I’ll be reviewing the third book, and it will prob be after our New Year’s Res to knock down our lists…so maybe just add it then? I know how it is to have that beast looking at you, taunting you with the amount of books on it!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I think it’s got to be one of the musts of a book blogger, having a massive TBR list, and if it isn’t then give it a few months after you start blogging and it will be! 😀
I may definitely do that, once I see your review for the third book I’ll know it’s time to add it!

    3. Yeah, it’s like a rite of passage, huh?
Got Sammi’s package today…I can’t wait to post about her books! And I get to keep Replica! She gets Three Dark Crowns. It’s a great deal.
I think that’s a good idea. I hopefully will get the third book soon! I’m eager to read it now. 😘

    4. I did…although you’ll see her inscription…it’s so personalized! She drew a bee inside the cover and called it a Queen Bee! Super cute.
I’m just glad she could get the giveaway prize that she won. I think more ppl should be willing to do that, and then more ppl could enter international giveaways! If you ever win a US one, let me know, lol! 😉

    5. Thank you! Yeah, I’m writing the post about it as we speak! Makes me want to sign up for all sorts of giveaways and Maximum Pop UK is always holding one…maybe I could enter theirs and split the winnings with you if I win! That would be AWESOME!

  3. I’m having wordpress issues, but wanted to say thanks to Stephanie for her review!! She’s amazing, right? I also wanted to let you know the release for the third and final Converter book is set for late spring 2017. I am writing it for NaNo, but edits and beta reading will take a lot of time, especially since this is finale time!! And I would be happy to give anyone on here a RaR. You can PM me on facebook! Thanks again, Stephanie!

If you message Tenille, she’ll give you a copy! Ebook so no shipping! 😉
It really is a good one. Well-written. I think you’d like the first book: it’s like contemporary mixed with secret society mixed with abilities it’s a lot of mixes in there. 😂

Anyway, yeah, she posted a comment on how to get ahold of her. She is just like Donna: super nice!

      You say: When?
I say: When you fell from heaven cause you’re an angel!
      😂😂😂😂😂😭😂😭😭😂😂😂
Hahahahahahaha. I love cheesy pickup lines. If a man used a cheesy one on me, it’d be an instant panty dropper. 😉
Or… is your dad a baker? Because you have hot buns! 😂😂😂😂😵

    4. I actually have a shirt from Goodwill that says that! My mom thought I was a lesbian when I bought it…I was like, no, it’s just a funny shirt. But who cares? Guys get all the fun shirts, and us girls have to always be “feminine” or else we are gay. I really hate that stereotype!
BTW, I might have to send your book out Friday. Apparently bc of Thanksgiving I have to do the grocery shopping for my mom…but I wouldn’t mind going to Barnes and Noble for Black Friday! Mwhoohahaha! 😏

Haha I wear boys clothes all the time and rarely dress feminine. I’m too busy running after horses 😂 although my friend in high school said I looked like a lesbian. 😒 she was a bitch.
Guys shirts are always better lol.

I’m not worried about when you send it. I’m just happy that it arrived and it’s safe at yours 🙂🙂
Ooh book sales. You definitely should go!! You can send my book anytime!!! Lol.

    5. Oh, I def want to get it out right away. I want to see your post when you receive your book mail!
Guys clothes ARE awesome. Nothing better than a pair of baggy pjs that are nice and warm. I stole so many clothes from my ex. I used to wear his shirts and my boobs stretched them out. And my boobs aren’t even big, lol! That’s how skinny he was.
Wrote a post about the book Mail. You should go check it out! I pinged you on it, as far as I know. Hopefully it worked. I’m never sure about those stupid things.

I’m going book hunting tonight 😊😊

I wear all my non-husbands clothes. He gets grumpy cos I steal all his jumpers. And shirts. And trackies.
And I sleep in his shirts and apparently it stretches them haha I have no boobs to stretch shirts 😞

I know: I’m like not even a B cup and he was right, I did stretch them out in that area! 😂😊
What are jumpers? And trackies? (Gotta learn some more of that Aussie lingo!)

Ooooh I don’t know how to explain jumpers any other way…. warm top things that you usually wear in winter over you shirt? Trackies and track suit pants. Do you track suit pants over there?
Haha in summer we wear thongs on our feet 😂😂😂😂😂😂

        Liked by 1 person

    7. That makes sense: jumpers are sweaters and trackies are track pants…however, thongs shouldn’t be on your feet…underwater should always be worn as underwear! Unless you mean flip-flops? (Jk, I’ve heard ppl call them thongs, but it makes me think if Sisco’s The Thong Song, which was, like, nineties music success).
      😂😂😂😂😂

Haha well I believe thongs should not be worn as underwear! That would just be uncomfortable and weird! 😜 how do they even stay up?!!! 😂😂
It’s so weird that one word can have two completely different meanings!!
The Thong Song was great 😂 I miss nineties music!! 😞😞

  5. 5 stars you say? Then it must be good!
I admit, I lost a bit in your review, this story sounds pretty complicated to me, even though it probably isn’t. But that’s me, everytime my brain has to use more cells then usual, it gets lazy and I get confused. That’s why I stick to contemporary mostly. 🙂
But anyway, great review, I bet it’s really helpful to adults too, especially teachers, as all of your reviews are.
It’s so nice to hear you’re friends with the author now. 🙂
