My Review:

So this is Glitter. I never saw the movie with Kirsten Dunst, but I pictured it the whole time while read the book.

Here’s that beautiful cover that lured us all in…

Now, I’ve read a lot of reviews that gave this book a low rating. I don’t know why. I actually liked it. It was a creative premise with an anti-hero as the protagonist (though she’s probably supposed to be sympathetic, I saw her as devious and lacking morals…and I loved it, lol). But let’s get past the #coverlove and delve into the blurbness, shall we?

Danica lives in the palace of Versailles. Outside the palace, it’s a futuristic setting with technology and traditional lives. Inside the palace, however, everything is different: once a corporation bought the palace for “preservation,” they moved all the shareholders in and started playing dress-up. But it goes beyond that because the people here believe they are what they are: Dukes, Ladies of the Court, and Kings/Queens. It’s legit. The palace is a sovereignty of its own.

Danica lives with her controlling mother and her alcoholic father. Before she was palace fodder, she was normal as can be. But with a nose job, etiquette lessons, and the proper dress, Danica is now in line to be a Queen. It helps that her mother is blackmailing the King, a man Danica can’t stand but has no choice but to marry. If she were to leave, she would leave with no citizenship, no identity, and no future. She must marry Justin, or the recreation of Louis XIV.

But all Dani wants is to leave the palace. When she discovers her father is abusing a drug called Glitter, she gets a revolutionary idea: put the drug in makeup and sell it to the aristocracy. She’ll make money, and by the time people find out she will be long gone. The only problem? A man named Saber who is tied up in the Glitter trade and a man Dani has fallen hopelessly in love with.

Is It Classroom-Appropriate?

I wouldn’t use it. The contrast between the palace life and the real world is quite fascinating, but I can’t see any real educational merit beyond that. The drug trade that Dani gets involved with would make me very hesitant to bring it in to a class setting. Mainly because we are supposed to feel bad she’s a drug dealer, and despite the idea that she’s hooking these people on a dangerous drug, Dani seems to feel no remorse except the occasional twinge of guilt.

I would like to think that this book is one that could be considered for a college level class, though. At that age range, students could discuss the contrasts with real Versailles, and the anger the French people in the book have over the so-called “aristocracy,” as well as the moral/ethical implications of dragging people without their knowledge. I’d find it interesting to scaffold this book with a classic French story or a Marie Antoinette section. It would be pretty interesting to see what students could take away from this book.

Age Range:

So Lexile.com does list this as a 920L. However, I disagree that they left off the HL (high-low) designation. Usually, I find that the designation warns the reader that while the Lexile measure suggests the reader’s ability, it does not recommend it for a younger audience because of the content. This book has mature content, but not in the traditional way most people consider “mature.” It’s not violent, it’s not racy, it’s not crude. But the drug use and the drugging people without their knowledge….I would consider that mature material. Pike goes into detail about some of the effects of the drug, and I find that to be a little mature.

The suggested age range on Lexile is 14-18, and while I would consider that close, I would still push for 15 at the earliest. Then again, you all know I am extremely conservative in my views when it comes to anything questionable and young readers. This would be one subject that I feel only older students or readers would be able to read and see the enormous problems with Dani’s, her father’s, her mother’s, and the King’s behavior.

End Result:

So…you may not like this book, but I have to go with how I felt, and I give Glitter ★★★★☆. I did not like (or condone) Dani’s behavior, but I did like the idea that someone would be that desperate. It’s interesting and the plot is fascinating (people actually believe they are what they are in the palace, and there’s little to no technology…these people reject the outside world to pretend they live in the seventeenth century!

Luckily, they don’t do powdered wigs, but Dani is obsessed with tightening her corset as a means of control). I would recommend it to anyone who likes an anti-hero story or is sick and tired of the Mary Sue “speshul snowflake” character trope. Dani is not special. She is not magical nor has abilities.she is not “the one.” What she is is desperate to escape and be free of this life of decadence and pretend. And she is legit afraid of Justin, the “king.” After you read about him, you would be, too.

Would you read this book? Don’t you love that cover? Do you think I’m mad for giving it this rating? (Well, I prob am)

Happy Reading, y’all! I’m off to give my thesis presentation so wish me luck! (I’m so nervous! Argh!)

  1. Great review Stephanie! I’ve read a ton of reviews from bloggers who didn’t enjoy this one so it’s refreshing to read a different take on it. I’m not sure if I’d enjoy Danica as a protog only because she sure does remind me of Walter White from breaking Bad lol. nonetheless, glad you enjoyed it & that cover is GORGE!

    1. No, I’m still on Season 6 on Netflix…but I’m recording Season 7 on the DVR.
Are you up to speed? I kind of like being a little behind so I always have an episode to watch instead of waiting a week for a new one, lol!

      1. I’m up to speed. As a matter of fact I’m on my way out to pick up dinner in anticipation of tonight’s mid-winter season finale 😃 I def agree that waiting sometimes is best. I wish I had waited for This Is Us smh instead every week I’m left lingering 😂😂😂

        Liked by 1 person

    2. See, I just can’t stand the lingering. Even with books! I hate waiting bc I go crazy!
So I’ve been keeping us a bit behind, but only in hopes that we will always have a season of fun waiting for us! I ❤️ TWD! Yay zombies!

    3. Good! The only thing I wish is that he would take a freakin shower!
Is it just me or does he look greasier every season? I remember early Daryl was waaaaay hotter than greasy Daryl. And I shipped him with Carol! Lol!

    1. Oh, no…those pics are from Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst. It just matches so well, and they came up when I was google searching images for the post. It reminds me of it bc Dani sleeps in Antoinette’s old room so they talk about her a lot in the book,

  2. Good luck with presentation (it’s probably already over)!
Glitter is on my tbr list for months now, I can’t wait to read it (at some point when cheaper edition will be released). The cover is the most beautiful cover of 2016 in my opinion.
I am glad to see you liked it, because there’s so many negative reviews, and it’s good to actually read a good one for change!
I still want to read it bc Iike villians and anti heroes more then good guys, I always did.

    1. Yeah, I don’t understand why there are so many neg reviews. I just don’t.
Thanks about the pres…I think it went well, or I certainty hope so? 🤔
She’s not really a villain but she’s def not a good guy. Her motives are questionable at best. I heard you weren’t a fan of Roseblood (I haven’t read the review yet but Jas told me)…I haven’t read it but I still want to! I think books vary so much depending on the person, you know? I hope you like it!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Thanks! I hope I’ll like it too.
Yes, unfortunately I wsn’t a fan of Roseblood. I liked the idea pf the story more then the story itself, but also I was confused for two thirds (is that how you say it?) of the book and was bored most of the time…
I hope you will like it better then I did. I see many people love it actually, so it obviously isn’t a bad book, it just wasn’t for me.

        Liked by 1 person

    2. It happens! Some people loved Vassa in the Night, and while I thought the attempt was decent, the story was confusing for me. So hopefully I will like it bc I have been waiting for a long time. But then again, I waited for Stealing Snow, and that was a bit of a letdown. I hate it when books disappoint!
This one is pretty straightforward, and I think you’ll like it…you probably won’t like the main character though…she does some skeezy things.

Great review! I’m glad you posted it 😊 I really enjoyed this book too (as you know) and I absolutely agree with you on the fact that it’s not appropriate for the classroom. Maybe for college, like you said. I thought this whole plot was so interesting and it was a refreshing change of pace for me when I read it. I’m so happy you liked it, too! And yes!! That cover!! It’s definitely eye candy. 😍

    1. I saw your review and was so happy you liked it, too! I knew we had good taste! 😉 The plot was well-done and I’m hooked. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. But Pike said it won’t come out until Fall 2017! Ugh, what a wait!

      1. Megan @ bookslayerReads

I know! A forever long wait! Lol. And what about that ending? I wasn’t expecting that at all. Although she did have it coming to her! 😉

    2. I know…I was like, wait, what? Fucksr! Liar! But she did have it coming…I guess karma’s a bitch, right?
I keep thinking that I want to believe Justin when he says it was an accident, that Dani “distracted” him…but then he goes and does the same thing to Dani all the time. Do you think he meant to do what he did? Or do you think it was an accident? 🤔

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Megan @ bookslayerReads

Honestly… I don’t think it was an accident. But then again, there may be a chance that he went a little too far without realizing it. I doubt it, though. My gut tells me he did it intentionally. What about you?

        Liked by 1 person

    3. I don’t know…she DID surprise him…but he also did the same to Dani. Over and over.
Wouldn’t it be weird if he ended up being a good guy? That would be a twist.
Ugh, I hate waiting so long for books! The need ARCs of everything! 😂😂😂

      Liked by 1 person

    4. I love twists! I would love it if he turned out to be a good guy, and Saber turned out to be a bad guy, lol! I guess that’s the mystery lover in me, even though I don’t read mysteries. (Or soap opera lover…evil twin, anyone?)
Oh, speaking of which, I read a really good review for The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer, and she gave it one star…I don’t know if you plan to read it, but the twist is so ridiculous that I just want to shout it from the rooftops! It is such a stupid sounding book! Is that one you have been thinking about reading?

      Liked by 1 person

The Chemist isn’t at the top of my list, but I’ve been seeing it around and considering reading it sometime. You think I should pass on it?

    5. I’m going to leave you a link to a friend’s review, and though she isn’t always right, she’s pretty darn close. I want to tell you why I would advise against it, but I don’t want to give you spoilers. I commented on the review and she answered my question (if you tap on it you’ll see the response and it totally made me decide against it). Check it out but I say pass!!

Ahh, Emily May. I used to follow closely to her reviews, until she started DNF’ing and low rating all the books I ended up liking and vice versa. So I don’t know. But I’ll definitely check it out!

        Liked by 1 person

    6. Yeah, she is a picky reader..and she never added me as a friend which irritates me, but sometimes her reviews are funny. I don’t know how someone gets that big on Goodreads. I don’t think she even has a blog. I think there are some ppl out there that use GR as their blogs (I used to) but it’s not the same. And yes, she’s hard on some books I love. But not as hard as Khan (do you know of her?). She also makes me laugh but her reviews are super-harsh (but I love how she calls every protagonist a Mary Sue speshul snowflake!).
It’s nice you know who I’m talking about, lol!

      Liked by 1 person

    7. Oh, she does have a blog. I didn’t know that.
Nah, if she won’t add me as a friend after I like and comment on her reviews, I’m not gonna follow her blog. I got enough friends that I care about on here, I spoke to someone who admitted that they do this only for the ARCs and don’t comment or read a lot of blogs…I don’t do this for the numbers or the freebies (though I will admit that I started for that reason). I like the long convos and personal connections I make. I don’t have time to follow bloggers that don’t interact with me. I don’t just follow people blindly anymore…it’s probably why I don’t have so many followers. Well, more than I thought, but not as high as some. I did get a notification that I hit 300 followers on Twitter and that surprised me, because I mainly only follow people who I think might have something interesting to say. The person who does it for the numbers has over 1,000 followers on Twitter.
I don’t know why I went on this tangent…prob because I was thinking of Emiliy May and her lack of reciprocal communication on Goodreads! 😂😂😂

Lol, it’s alright. You can rant/vent to me anytime, girlie. 😉 I also don’t follow blogs blindly anymore. I’ll only follow if the content is interesting and I like the blog. But I’m starting to get to the point where I don’t wanna follow them if they never communicate. I understand not being able to respond or interact every single day or to every single comment. But I would appreciate at least a little interaction. That’s why I’m so happy I chose WordPress as my blogging platform… it’s so much easier to like and comment and interact with each other.

    8. Yeah, I have to agree with you on WordPress, because when I started I made a blog on Blogger/Blogspot, and it had no app, and it wouldn’t display correctly on my tablet. Seeing as how that’s how I do most of what I do, I finally abandoned the blog and went here. And I have never regretted it. I do love how the blog app tells you when people respond to your comments. And I have it set up to email me when someone posts or when someone comments on my blog.
I really should narrow down the blogs that I get email notifications from, especially since I’m noticing that though I have so many followers, I get an average of 30 likes on a post…which means there are some ppl not even reading my blog, but they’re following me…why? Makes no sense to me. But que sera sera.
I’m glad I’m one of the blogs you follow and comment on…color me thrilled! Anytime someone who has a great blog comments and give regular feedback, I am honored. That and I like you. You be awesome n shit.
Thanks for letting me rant. Love that! And you can always rant to me…I don’t get enough rants, lol. 😉

Aw, thank you! I’m honored that you comment and like on my stuffs too! I have over 1,000 followers and my posts only average 100-130 likes. So yeah… maybe the other ones are just too busy? Dunno. But I’m very grateful for all my followers… hopefully they still at least read my stuffs! 😉

    9. Well, you at least know that 130 ppl are reading your stuff and that’s incredible! I know I asked you this before but I bet the response notification disappeared: did you recently buy a domain? I could’ve sworn you were a WordPress.com domain…do you get a lot of benefits from having your own domain name or paid blog? I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.
You know I’ll always be one of the 1,000 that read your posts. 😉

Yeah I upgraded. $99 per year. My domain has dropped the “wordpress” part, yes. And you get different fonts. And you can use CSS for blog design. But I’m not sure how to use it exactly yet. I’m teaching myself, slowly but surely. But honestly, unless you’re familiar with CSS, I would say it’s not worth it.

        Liked by 1 person

    10. ::whistles::
      $99 a year sounds like a lot…
But then if you put it into context, it’s only $8.25/mo, so that’s really not that bad!
Not that familiar with coding: before CSS, I used to know HTML (this was back in 2003 mind you)…I knew enough to make my Livejournal look pretty (definitely dating myself here with mentioning that!). I have a cheat sheet of the new codes, from XO Pixel or something like that…it’s a blog on Bloglovin that follow that talks about coding. One day it would be nice to get really good with it and then I’ll prob do the same as you and buy my domain, because your site is looking slick!! 😊👍

I’m walking today! Graduation at 10am! (Then finals next week…weird that I’m graduating first, right?)

  5. Great review for this book Stephanie. I’d seen the cover every now and again but never really read the blurb or anything. Now however I feel like I need to add this to my to-read list immediately.
The cover is gorgeous and your review makes it sound like a book I need to read and that I’d love as well! It’s a great concept, I can’t think of any other book that had a setting quite like this one! 😀

    1. Thank you!
You know, I’ve never read any of her books before, so I might need to start! It was the cover that got me, and it sucked me in. We have good taste in books, and I think you’ll like the ambiguous ethics of the main character. I did!
I had seen it around, but I had read a review that panned it. Then I thought I shouldn’t read it, but I saw it on Overdrive and put myself on the wait list because I couldn’t resist that cover: I am SUCH a coverwhore! 😂😂😂
      What are you reading now?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. That’s all right, and well if this book has convinced you to read more of hers then I know it’s definitely worth picking up! If the book is as amazing as the cover then that’s already a win for me. 😀
I think I’ll like it as well then if you did, and don’t worry I can be a major coverwhore as well.
Nothing at the moment but I’ll be starting All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven soon. What about you?

    2. Yay, us coverwhores!
I’m reading Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerhill. It’s a buddy read with Jas…though I’m really reading it bc it comes out on the 27th and I want to make sure the ARCs from Netgalley all get read and reviewed before they come out. I want to be able to go on there again, too! I haven’t requested anything bc I had so many that didn’t come out for awhile…once I review those, I can ask for more, lol!
      How is the Niven book?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Best way to find book to read I think! 😀
Well I hope you enjoy it anyways. I have a fair few ARCs I need to get around to this month at least! I haven’t been on NetGalley in ages simply because I have a fair few ARCs I still need to get through.
It’s all right, haven’t got very far so I’m hoping to finish it tomorrow! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

    3. I’ve been actively avoiding Netgalley too! Jas taught me how to ask for physical ARCs, but I want to wait until at least finals are over.
I did sign up for the Freeks by Amanda Hocking blog tour, because I think that will be fun. I’m eager to read that book. Ever the Hunted is going well, but it’s one of those “he doesn’t love me” “does he love me” books where you want to smack the main character and say, “hey, dumbshit, he obviously loves you, wtf is your problem!?!” But I guess it creates tension then.
Look forward to catching up on your reviews: I got down to 200 emails and then all the school stuff started coming up, and now I’m back up to 800! So I really need to get a better blogging system cause this ain’t workin’. 😱

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Well I hope asking for physical ARCs goes well. It’s something I want to do one day but I need to get around to it and work out which publishers are in the UK and which books they do that I could read and review. Freeks sounds amazing so I’ll look forwards to our slot on the book tour, and I’m glad Ever the Hunted is OK as well, though the main character doing that whole back and forth ‘does he love me, does he not’ would annoy me too!
Ohh you’ve got a lot to catch up on it seems. Good luck! 😀

    4. Well, I will admit Jas helped a lot today when she asked if I wanted a physical ARC of Gilded Cage (though I have the NetGalley title). They sent her an extra form and she thought of me! So there’s one right there, lol. But I’m not going to do this for them, you know? I do this for reasons like responding to comments and talking books! And getting the scoop on the new releases and the good books! That’s why I love it so much!
Yeah, school took a chunk out of my reading time, but soon I’ll be getting it back! I’m so happy that Christmas is coming too because I can give my blog friends a little something from me! Just thinking of what to send…🤔

      1. Oh that’s great. I got an ARC of Gilded Cage, read it, and really enjoyed it so I hope you like it as well Stephanie. Plus it’s great Jas thought of you when it arrived too! 🙂
No I’m not doing it for ARCs either, which is why I haven’t been on top of actually requesting them from publishers or anything. There’s so much more to blogging than getting and reading ARCs you know?
I find that with work sometimes, but at least once it’s over you can have some time to get back to blogging. And I’m sure anything will be amazing Stephanie! 🙂 ❤️

    5. It was nice that she thought of me. But I did make a comment about how her numbers were so high, and she told me that I was blogging wrong: that I shouldn’t be so concerned with responding to other people’s blogs (she said I have a large number of comments but not a lot of likes)…she said she focuses on the numbers. She’s in this for the books. I’m not. I was when I started (all I wanted was free books like all the other bloggers seemed to get), and though it’s a cool benefit, I’d rather have tons of comments than tons of followers. Now I’m all for the communication and comraderie that comes with talking books with someone you care about!
Gosh I am such a mushy blogger!
Getting ready to take my last final! Wish me luck! 😘

      1. That is nice. I think for everyone blogging is a different experience. Some people worry about the numbers more, and don’t get me wrong I do look at my stats but for me what’s important is the comments. I started this blog to talk to other people about books so I don’t really mind about the likes or the views or even the ARCs as long as I have people commenting and talking to me about the books I review you know?
I’d rather have a large number of commenters than followers too. Honestly I don’t think I ever really started this blog for the free books, though don’t get me wrong that is a great part of it! 🙂
Oh good luck Stephanie. I’m sure you don’t need it and you’ll pass your final with flying colours but good luck all the same! 😀 ❤️

    6. I’m glad we are in this for the same reason, you know? Makes me feel less crazy to not care so much about the numbers…but still care.
I think I did all right on all my finals, and now they are DONE! I am going to go see my dad off at the airport, and then I’m going to catch up on some reading and blogging today! I can’t wait!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Honestly most days I don’t even look at my stats. I look more at the comments I have in my notifications than anything else! 😀 Everyone’s into blogging for a different read on though. I guess as long as we’re all having fun that’s the important thing. 🙂
Whoo, guess you get to have very well deserved break now, and obviously catching up on reading and blogging are two very important things as well! 😀 ❤

        Liked by 1 person

    7. Yup! I agree with you on comments all the way!
I am LOVING the break. Took my last online final thing today and I’m done. I’ve spent most of the day going through emails and I’m still not making a dent bc they are coming back in as fast as I delete them. Wanted to write a review today but I’m running out of time, lol! It feels like the time goes by so fast when you’re blog-hopping (or just clicking on email post notifications, liking the post, maybe cimmenting, and then going back to the email). But it will feel good when I get that pile down. Whew!

      1. At least it’s all over now, and you can enjoy a nice relaxing winter break where all you have to do is blog and make it through your emails.
That tends to be the way with emails, I feel the same sometimes but there are bound to be some amazing posts you’ll probably only discover through those emails so there’s that as well. 🙂

    8. Jas thinks I’m being too dedicated by wanting to read them all, but she doesn’t understand that I would miss a lot of good posts if I didn’t. I told my mom about going through my emails and even she seems to understand, though she admits that I’ll probably never be current, and she’s right. I’ll prob always be a couple days behind, but that’s fine. I’m still involved then.
Yes, it’s been a nice couple of days. I may have one or two things I have to do, and I’ll still need to look for a job, but I don’t think it’s going to be a major search until after Christmas, and I can handle that!
Thanks for getting it. I knew you would. 😊

      1. It’s definitely amazing you are reading them all, honestly I don’t know how you do it Stephanie, but at the same time you’re probably seeing some amazing posts at the same time. I don’t think it matters whether you’re current or not, you’re going through at your own pace and it’s not like you’re ignoring people. I still talk to you every day! 😀
Well good luck with the job hunting then, but I’d have left it until after Christmas as well, enjoy having a little break up until then and then start your search in earnest! 😀

    9. You got it! I will!
I hope you have a good Christmas…anything you want in particular? I’ve been thinking of mailing some bookmarks to my closest blog buddies (I’m shipping out my #SFATW even though I didn’t do any posts about it on Mon bc Anne has been so sick and she is sending hers on Mon…I’m sending Sammi’s when I send Anne’s…) and since I’m already going to the bookstore and post office, I thought I would just mail out a couple bookmarks to some of my friends! You, Jas, Megan, Jillian, etc. you know.
What are you asking for for Christmas? 🤔
And have you seen the new emojis yet?? 🤡

      1. There’s nothing really in particular, if anyone’s asked I’ve given them a list of books but other than that I’ll be getting money from most people which I will spend on books! 😀 How about you, anything interesting on your Christmas list!
I posted my SFATW on Wednesday, not sure when it will arrive but the post office said before Christmas so fingers crossed that actually happens! Oh but that sounds like an amazing idea Stephanie, and no I haven’t actually seen the new emojis yet, are these on WordPress or on the iPhone? 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      2. On the iPhone! They are hilarious! 🤤 (now a drooling guy!)
I am mailing my SFATW on Monday because Anne is sick and can’t send hers until then but I got her some cool stuff! Can’t wait for her to open it!
Only thing interesting on my Christmas list is a Fujifilm Instax and some books I want really bad! Like Scythe and Hotel Ruby (the copy with the hotel cover). And some Funko Pop Vinyls! Lol!

      3. I haven’t seen them but I’ll be sure to take a look when I find my phone. I tend to leave it placed, forget about it, and find it hours later with loads of unread notifications!
Oh that’s a shame, but hopefully you’ll both get your packages quickly and you’ll both enjoy what’s inside too. Plus hopefully Annie will be feeling better soon as well! 🙂
I hope you get all that for Christmas then. Funko Pops are always a great gift to get! 😀

    1. Oh, are you reading it now? If you are, then that’s awesome!
I loved the setting: talk about something toltally different! Wow!
Are you sitting there, reading, and eating a toasted cheese and Vegemite sandwich? 🤔
Book Mail going out this week finally! Sending yours and Anne’s on the same day! I have a final tomorrow morning, then one Tues afternoon, and a paper due and final on Wed. Boom boom boom then done, I should be hitting the post office Wed evening/Thurs morning at the latest. I’ll send you the tracking info so you can watch your package (they do tracking to out-of-country people, right? I would imagine so since it’s so far…I always insure and track bc you never know with the crappy mail delivery system, and I have only once sent something overseas and it was for eBay!). I can’t wait for you to get it! I’m so excited!
My mom keeps reminding me to mail it, so it helps me not forget! Lol. I am brain dead without her, apparently! 🙄

Reading it now. Loving it!! 😍😍 I want to live there lol. Or maybe just visit. I don’t think I could do the pooffy skirts and corsets.
Now I feel like a cheese and Vegemite toastie 😫😫
I have to get your book mail out too!!! I’ll hopefully be able to send it tomorrow 😊😊
I don’t have anyone to remind me of things 😒 my brain is like a sieve lol. I’ve started writing things down 😂😂😂

    2. Oh my brain is a massive sieve: I already forgot what I was responding to! 😂 Jk.
Hope you enjoy that toasty! And I’m not worried about the post! (See: I’m Aussie-fying! I called it post and not mail!)
Yeah, I couldn’t do corsets. Maybe for dressing up as a top and jeans for a night out, but the way Danica keeps tightening her stays? Ugh. Hurts me just thinking about it. I can’t even do Spanx like most plus-sized girls. I say let it all hang out!! 😱😱😂😂😂

        Uhhm who are you?! 😂😂😂
Aww look at you go! You’ll be a true bogan in no time 😂😂
Ooh no I like my internal organs in place. Would not be able to handle tightening them like she does!! I don’t like anything the restricts my eating or breathing lol.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Yeah, the way she describes her organs moving around made my organs heave! Especially my stomach! Ick. I don’t want to know what is going on in there: it’s why I failed BMS 208: Anatomy and Physiology twice! As long as it’s all working, I don’t care if Oompa Loompas run the whole thing. Seriously.

What’s BMS?? Anatomy and Physiology sounds hard!! Was that compulsory?!!
But yes I agree do not need to know about that shit!! Lol.
It would be pretty awesome if Oompa Loompa’s ran the show! 😂😂😂😂

    3. Way back when I wanted to be a Biomedical Sciences major (hence the BMS) so I signed up for that as one of the required classes. It’s also required if you want science as a teachable minor (you have to, as a teacher, have a teachable major and minor). I kept failing it because I couldn’t memorize the stupid 20,000 parts of the heart or thigh bone. I just couldn’t. And I clearly don’t want to know if Oompa Loompas could be in there and I wouldn’t care. Lol. So yeah, no Doctor future for me, and I ended up picking history as my teachable minor. I can memorize facts and dates: just don’t give me a skeletal or circulatory system.
Ugh, even saying the words gives me chills. 😱

😂😂😂 that sounds like a super difficult major. You’re crazy girl!! 😂😂
I had enough trouble memorising cuts of meat when I did my cooking apprenticeship lol.
My brain remembers useless things like song lyrics and lines from movies. That’s about it 😂😂
I still think Oompa Loompas running the show would exceptionally creepy and weird. But awesome haha
Btw your post is in the mail!! My lil post office here only had the bags so I’m hoping it turns up in one piece 😩😩😒😒

    4. Yeah…I’m a little bit off. Lol. But that’s what teachers have to do: they have to have a teachable major and minor. Sometimes I just want to say F it all and use my English degree and go work at the library or something. Or be an editor. Or, of course, write a bestselling novel.
I’m so excited! Yours will be in the post with Anne’s on Thurs. It’s all packaged all pretty, but since I need to go to the library and return some books and the post office is right around the corner, AND Anne’s package needs to go out too, it just seems like perfect timing!
I hope the postman won’t be a wanker and mess up the book, lol! That would be bogan.
Now I’m off to eat some toasties! (No, but I will eat some Snickers Trees and write a paper, yuck squared) 😝

I feel like that would be the hardest thing to major in lol.
Working in a library would be awesome!!! The book is in a plastic pocket/bag thing so hopefully it’ll be okay. I didn’t get a chance to package it pretty ☹️ I was also going to chuck in a Christmas card but completely spaced then the bag was sealed so that was an epic fail lol.
That is perfect timing! I’m so excited for your package to arrive.
What the frigg is a snickers tree? We have Snickers chocolate bars. Have fun with your paper 😊😘

    5. Oh I am just excited for anything! I’m sure Mr. Postman won’t screw it up! (He better not, or he may not be able to walk his route anymore if you know what I mean…👊)
Yeah, being a librarian would be awesome. All I really want to do is work with literature but get paid enough to not have to eat cat food the rest of my life.
Lmao, Snickers Trees are the same as Snickers, but for Christmas they made them into little Christmas tree 🎄 shapes! They actually taste better than the original Snickers, which I never eat! They were on sale somewhere and I tried it for funzies, and I think they put crack in there or something. Honestly am addicted. I think I ate four last night. And I’m trying to lose weight!
Alas! Ugh. I just can’t wait until they are sold out and the temptation is gone. 😂😂

Throatpunch the bogan wanker if he screws it up!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Haha cat food is expensive over here.
Live off of potato. I could live off potato. Or toast. Even pasta is cheaper than cat food. ALL THE CARBS!!! 😂😂😂😂
Oooh they sound amazeballs!! We don’t have them over here 😭😭😭 I love picnic bars. Do you have them over there? Oooh or Turkish delights and twix.
We don’t really have any special Christmas edition chocolates☹️ we’re boring over here 😂😂

    6. Turkish Delights? Wasn’t that a movie candy? It sounds familiar but I didn’t think it was a real thing!
I couldn’t live off a potato. I would need at least some Mac n Cheese.
All the Snickers Trees have gone extinct. My heart and stomach are sad. 😫

It’s like a lolly thing covered in chocolate. I might have to chuck you in a box of chocolates just to see what is different lol.
Ahh mac n cheese is amazing!!
Oh that’s unfortunate. You have a year to wait til they come back out lol.
We already have hot cross buns out over here for Easter 😑😑 it’s ridiculous

    7. Hey, anything chocolate I’ll be totally grateful for, lol!
For EASTER? C’mon! I hate that shit! It’s been like, several days since Christmas! They’re gonna play that? Ugh, sometimes I really hate that. They are probably actually two years ahead of us now since they’ve been moving holidays forward…they were probably just selling stuff during the Christmas season for Christmas TWO YEARS FROM NOW! 😂🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂

As I was walking back from it, my leggings got caught on a plaque on the front of the podium, and they ripped a hole in my butt! It was awful! But at least it was AFTER the presentation. 😂😂😂

  6. I don’t think I’ve read a review for this one yet or even heard a lot about it but I’m officially intrigued. I love how the characters are actually pretending they’re in the seventeenth century and living in Versailles. I’ve always been really interested in French history so when I saw that I was like 😱. It definitely seems like a unique story. I’ll have to read it for myself in the future. Great review as always, Stephanie! 😊

    1. Thanks Melissa! It was so interesting…like historical fiction merged with contemporary science fiction! I loved it. Pike is working on the sequel now.
I do hope you get a chance to read it, and if you do, let me know what you think!
