The Sunshine Blogger Award!

I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by 13echo…thank you! I love receiving awards from my fellows bloggers, and I’m a big fan of 13echo’s blog. I am honored when people think of me.

Here are the questions given to me:

My questions:

  1. What genre do you want to read more of?

I want to read more YA, of course! I was originally only reading YA dystopian novels, but I branched out to fantasy and science fiction. I love fairy tale retellings! I could read those forever!

    2. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read?

It’s called 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I was so excited to read it! He’s gotten rave reviews, and the description sounded awesome. This woman, who’s an assassin, ends up in a similar world but not her own, so she calls it 1Q84 instead of 1984, which is when the story takes place. I didn’t know it was three books in one, so my Kindle showed it at 900+ pages. I didn’t even realize the length of the book until I noticed that no matter how much I read, the % of book finished stayed the same

I got to 20ish percent, and still nothing of any significance happened. The only thing the character notices at that point is that the police’s uniforms look different. I didn’t want to DNF it. But I just couldn’t take it anymore. I had never NOT finished a book…I felt so bad. I told someone at Barnes & Noble that I didn’t like it, and she said he was very advanced, and I should “work up to Murakami.” I wanted to slap her right there. I mean, what are you saying? That I’m not smart enough to “understand” the book. Oh, I was pissed. Every review for it is a rave, but I think it’s overhyped. It’s also one of the books that transitioned me out of just straight adult to YA. So at least something good came out of it. (If anyone who reads this liked the book, then my apologies for knocking it. Just was not for me. At all.)

    3. What’s your favourite childhood book?

It’s called Larcadio by Shel Silverstein. My mom used to read it to my brother and me at night before bed. She’d read a bit and save it for the next night. I do t have a copy anymore. But it seriously will make you cry.

He’s obsessed with marshmallows and even had a suit made of them when the men took him to their world.

    4. What movie adaptation did you think was better than the book (if any)?

My Girl. I don’t remember who wrote the book, but Macauley Culkin and Anna Chlumsky were in the movie. The book had the girl really messed up. The movie made her a lot more likable. She even kills her own goldfish in the book! I didn’t like it. But then again, I read the book after the movie, and that can happen sometimes. So I try to read the book first so I’m not disappointed in it.

    5. Do you prefer reading in the morning or in the evening?

Oh, evening for sure. I’m too tired in the morning. I prefer afternoon the most, though.

    6. What’s your favourite quote from a book?

I don’t think I can answer this off the top of my head. I’ll have to check my Kindle. ::checks Kindle::

Ok, I found it.

“Fire destroys things completely. Even the things that survive it are still changed on an elemental level. They are brittle and broken and ready to snap. In this way, fire is so similar to despair. If unchecked, despair will consume every other emotion, leaving them all only fragile shells.” (Melissa Marr, Wicked Lovely, p. 137)

   7. Are a part of any book clubs?

Nope. Just Goodreads, my Goodreads groups, and my blogs. I consider that close enough.

    8. What’s your favourite blog post that you’ve posted?

Hmmm. That’s a tough one. Probably “Book Triples.” I couldn’t believe I found a cover that was shared between three books! Three! I’m still amazing. 😮😧😯

    9. What are your favourite websites?

These are good questions! Um, Goodreads. Amazon. NetGalley. And my blog. 😎

    10. What other hobbies do you enjoy doing, apart from reading?

I haven’t had much time for hobbies lately. My blog is one. I collect old vintage postcards from the early 1900s, or the “Golden Era” of postcards. I like going to antique stores. And garage sales. And thrift shops. I love photography but don’t have the equipment. I play the flute, but it’s been AWHILE.

     11. Do you have a goodreads reading challenge for this year, if so what is it?

Yes, I did. It was 100 books. I have surpassed it. My goal was 100 books, and I am @ 113 now. Last year it was the same, but I made it to the end of the year at 117. So I’m about 40 books ahead of schedule. I was going to up it, but with school starting soon, my pace will slow down. But I want to see by how much I can surpass it! It’d be nice to get to 150, or even 200!

Well, that’s all from me. I’m going to have to do a cop out and recycle the questions, because it’s dinner time. And those questions are amazing anyway. Some of the best. So…here they are for my tagged peeps:

  1. What genre do you want to read more of?
  2. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read?
  3. What’s your favourite childhood book?
  4. What movie adaptation did you think was better than the book (if any)?
  5. Do you prefer reading in the morning or in the evening?
  6. What’s your favourite quote from a book?
  7. Are a part of any book clubs?
  8. What’s your favourite blog post that you’ve posted?
  9. What are your favourite websites?
  10. What other hobbies do you enjoy doing, apart from reading?
  11. Do you have a goodreads reading challenge for this year, if so what is it?

And I tag…

Have fun, guys!! Can’t wait to see your answers! Thanks, 13echo!

  1. I think people often miss the fact that you can technically “understand” a book and still not like it. You can see that it’s trying to do X and Y, but think that X and Y are terrible goals in the first place. I’m not sure why this employee thinks being condescending is going to sell more books either. Ugh.

      1. People do this to me all the time. “Well, you obviously must have missed that the author was trying to break the fourth wall and make the book characters aware they were characters in the book.” No, I noticed. I just still thought it was stupid. 😉

  2. Thanks so much for the tag! I can’t wait to get started and I love the questions you’ve come up with as well! 😀
It’s amazing you’ve completed your Goodreads challenge for this year already, it’d be great to see how many books you manage to read before the year is over. I’m about three quarters of the way through mine so I’m on track to beat mine by December at least! Also I really love your book doubles/triples posts, I can’t wait to see what ones you find next! 😀
Thanks again for the tag! 🙂

    1. You’re welcome for the tag…the questions aren’t mine, I borrowed 13echo’s questions because they were THAT GOOD. I enjoyed answering them myself.
I’m hoping to get to a higher number…it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something every time I see that goal surpassed.
What’s your goal on Goodreads? Are we friends on Goodreads? I can never remember who I’ve asked to be friends and who I haven’t asked yet. I want all my blog buddies to be friends with me on GR.

      1. In that case I hope I have just as much fun answering them as you did! 🙂
I know that feeling, the closer I get to my goal, every time I see a book added to my list, I get that sense of accomplishment as well!
It’s my personal Goodreads account, I need to create one which is solely for my blog because my personal one is a mess at the moment! But once I have one I will add you as a friend on there as well! 😀

  3. Thanks for the tag! You are too awesome! I admire you passing your goodreads challenge last year and this year. That’s way too amazing. When you get a chance, do share some of your vintage postcards. I would love to see 🙂

      1. Vintage like how old? Your blog is moving along really well. I have been on here for 2 years but don’t have as much traffic as you. You are doing something right. Keep doing it! 🌺 No need to pity though haha I have only been active this past 2 months. Got more reading done since I ended the Netflix contract 😊

  4. My postcards are from between 1905-1920. The best ones were before WWI. German presses made beautiful cards. I have some favorite publishers, just like with books. Certain holidays are more collectible than others, like Halloween: those cards go anywhere from $20-$200 a card.

  5. Noooo, I am so sad that you didn’t like 1Q84! I’ve read it too, and HONESTLY it’s not Murakami’s best, haha. It’s definitely not for everyone – I’m a fan of his and even I didn’t really love that book. 😛

It’s pretty cool that you collect old vintage postcards! How many do you have, do you think?

    1. Oh, wow. Maybe 200? I have two albums full, plus some that don’t fit in the album so I keep them in plastic holders, kind of like the same people use for baseball cards, but specially made for postcards. There’s a lot of people that collect them, and you can find them everywhere. Any time my aunt travels, she brings me some from an antique shop, which is cute because she doesn’t know what to look for, so sometimes they aren’t my style that I collect…but the sentiment is sweet. I’ve already had a request to share them…if you like book cover art, be prepared for some beautiful cards. 😊

      1. I’ll have to do a post of my faves…
I’ve been collecting them since…hmmm…three years ago? I think that’s about right. I haven’t had the time to go to any shows or have the funds to buy any lately, but whenever I am at an antique show, I keep my eyes peeled for some gems. Some people don’t know what they have. I treasure very single one, especially the mailed ones with details like, “Bess is just getting over the pox,” and “Irma went to go buy a new cow.” The messages on them are soo cute!! Remind me of simpler times when mail was the only way to carry on a conversation long distance.

  6. Yeah, I get kinda obsessed when I’m into something…like, I become super-focused on the subject, because I want to fit in to the area to which I’m adapting. So when I was postcard collecting in the beginning, I tried to find books and learn about the time period and stuff. Even now, starting out in the blogging community, I try to pay attention to what people post and make my posts interesting because I don’t want to bore you guys! I guess it’s an insecurity of mine: I want to belong. You wouldn’t believe how many people collect postcards or other ephemera (paper products of the collectible kind, i.e. Flyers, posters, advertisements)
It’s cool that you’re interested and I’ll bust the album out to take a couple shots. 📸
